DU30 orders massive land distribution as part of peace drive

President Rodrigo R. Duterte led a gathering of leaders in Eastern Visayas today March 18, 2021 in Tacloban City aimed at solidifying commitment to end armed communist insurgency in the region.


President Duterte expressed his resolve to end armed conflict by improving governance, punctuated by announcing the distribution of 2,234 hectares and 1,500 Certificates of Land Ownership Awards (CLOAs) to farmer beneficiaries. 


He likewise commended the National and Regional Task Forces on Ending Local Communist Armed Conflict for taking the strides against the insurgency through the Whole of Nation Approach and delivery of services. He assured the security of the former rebels in the audience and even the right to defend themselves through the use of firearms, and asked them to relay his offer to their former comrades. He ensured that the entire force of the Filipinos is behind  the effort  to secure lasting peace.


Meanwhile National Security Adviser Hermogenes Esperon announced the NTF ELCAC’s recommendation for 200 barangays in Eastern Visayas to be included in the 2022 budget under the Barangay Development Program. BDP aims to bridge the governance gaps and address issues that are the root causes of the insurgency.


The event likewise featured the turnover of services to beneficiaries by various national agencies as part of the Whole of Nation approach that typifies implementation of Executive Order 70, to include 

Among the cabinet officers who accompanied the President were Senator Bong Go, National Security  Adviser Hermogenes Esperon, Cabinet Officer for Regional Development and Security (CORDS) Eduardo del Rosario, DILG OIC Undersecretary Bernardo Florece, Secretaries Ramon Lopez of DTI, Isidro Lapena of TESDA, Silvestre Bello of DOLE, Al Cusi of Energy, John Castricciones of Agrarian Reform, Rodolfo Bautista of DSWD, William Dar of Agriculture, and Prospero de Veyra of CHED.


Also on hand were DILG Undersecretary Marlo L. Iringan, Undersecretary Jonathan E. Malaya and DILG 8 Regional Director Karl Caesar R. Rimando.  Among the attendees were provincial governors, congressional representatives, city and municipal mayors, punong barangays, beneficiaries, former rebels and regional directors.


Prior to this, President Duterte visited Guiuan, Eastern Samar for the quincentennial celebration of the advent of Christianity in the country.

DepEd allows Private or non-DepEd schools to proceed classes provided to strictly use distance learning modalities

DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION ADVISORY The Department of Education (DepEd) earlier announced the decision of the President to defer the school opening for School Year (SY) 2020-2021 from August 24, 2020 to October 5, 2020, as recommended by the Secretary of Education in light of the implications of the imposition of the Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ) in Metro Manila and in the provinces of Cavite, Laguna, Rizal and Bulacan.   This is pursuant to Republic Act (RA) No. 11480, which amended RA No. 7797, providing that the President, upon the recommendation of the Secretary of Education, may set a date later than the last day of August for the start of the school year in the country or parts thereof in the event of a declaration of a state of emergency or state of calamity.
