MANILA - A low-pressure area (LPA) off Mindanao will dump rains in parts of Visayas and Mindanao this weekend, state weather bureau PAGASA said.
The weather disturbance may enter the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) Saturday evening, Jan. 19, senior weather specialist Chris Perez said.
If it intensifies, it will be the first tropical cyclone to enter the country and will be named Amang.
In a 5 a.m. briefing Saturday, Perez said the LPA was last spotted 1,170 kilometers east of Mindanao.
Moderate to heavy rains may be experienced in Eastern Visayas, Caraga Region, and Davao Region.
Storm warning signals may also be raised over the aforementioned areas.
Perez said the tropical cyclone is expected to hit land over Caraga Region on Sunday, Jan. 20.
Moderate to heavy rains may persist over Bicol Region, Eastern and Central Visayas, Compostela Valley, Davao Oriental, southern Quezon, Mindoro Provinces, Romblon, and Marinduque.
Perez said residents at risk of flooding and landslides must take precautionary measures.
