6 provinces under Signal no.1, as tropical depression Amang nears

MANILA—The low pressure area spotted off Mindanao on Saturday night strengthened into Tropical Depression Amang, the first storm to hit the Philippines this year, the state weather bureau said.
PAGASA hoisted tropical cyclone warning Signal no. 1 over Agusan del Sur, Agusan del Norte, Surigao del Sur, Surigao del Norte, Dinagat Islands, and Camiguin.
These areas could experience winds reaching 60 kilometers per hour in 36 hours, PAGASA said.
Eastern Bohol and Southern Leyte could also be placed under storm Signal no. 1 in the next weather bulletin at 2 a.m., it added.
As of 10 p.m., Amang was last spotted 580 kilometers east southeast of Hinatuan town, Surigao del Sur, packing maximum winds of 45 km per hour and gusts of up to 60 kph.
It is moving north northwest "slowly," and is forecast to make landfall over Surigao del Norte-Siargao Islands on Sunday afternoon or night.
PAGASA has raised a yellow rainfall warning over Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, Davao Oriental, and Compostela Valley at 9 p.m.
Meanwhile, moderate to heavy rains will prevail over the Caraga region, Davao Oriental, Compostela Valley, Camiguin, and Misamis Oriental on Saturday night.
On Sunday, Caraga, northern Mindanao, Eastern Visayas, Central Visayas, Bicol, southern Quezon, Marinduque, and Romblon could experience moderate to heavy rains.
By Monday, the same weather condition could be experienced over Bicol, the Visayas, southern Quezon, Marinduque, and Romblon.
PAGASA advised fisherfolks and those with small seacrafts not to venture out over the seaboards of areas under storm signal no. 1, the northern seaboard of Northern Luzon, eastern seaboards of Northern, Central and Southern Luzon, and eastern seaboards of Visayas and Mindanao due to Amang and the surge of northeast monsoon.
